Podcast #3: Spearmint/Confident Speech

Spearmint: The Oil of Confident Speech

"Spearmint inspires clarity of thought and confident verbal expression. This oil encourages inner clarity around our personal opinions and convictions and supports us in translating that clarity into words. Spearmint promotes confidence when speaking publicly and is helpful with those feeling scattered, inarticulate and/or stumbling over words." -Daniel McDonald Emotional Healing with Essential Oils

This week on the podcast, we discuss strategies for making your thoughts and feelings as clear and confident as possible. This past week was HUGE for me; I published a letter to Trader Joe's which was read by a little over 1,000 people. Um...I've NEVER had that kind of response to my blog. Ever. But I can certainly get used to that ;-) This week I learned that people LOVE to read opinions almost as much as they love writing their own. I was reminded how difficult it is to make ourselves thoroughly heard and received the way we intend to on the internet.

I am honored to have had my words be received by so many people. I'm so appreciative for the out pour of positive feedback and support. And I'm so deeply grateful for and fascinated by the honest and raw comments that left me feeling misunderstood and temporarily defeated, but mostly energized and even more a lover of human beings.

Enjoy the show!

Podcast #2: Communication Breakdown

tin-cans-iStock_000011885996XSmall I haven't always considered myself to be a good communicator. But through years of therapy and a genuine interest in having meaningful relationships, I've gotten better at speaking my truth. Today on the podcast, we're talking about communication, not just in terms of sharing our feelings...but most importantly, being able to receive the feelings of others.

Featured in the episode is Lavender: The Oil of Communication...

Lavender aids verbal expression. It calms the insecurities that are felt when one risks their true thoughts and feelings. Lavender addresses a deep fear of being seen and heard. While people may be going through the motions of outward expression, they're actually holding back their innermost thoughts and feelings. The expression is not connected to the heart or the soul.

Lavender encourages emotional honesty and insists that one speak their thoughts and desires.

It is through open and honest communication that an individual experience is unconditional love and acceptance.

Lavender addresses blocked communication, fear of rejection, feeling unseen or unheard, constricted, tension, emotional dishonesty, fighting, fear of self-disclosure.

To Use: Rub 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil down the backs of the ears and onto the throat, when verbal expression feels stunted, or as needed...because it smells good.

WHAT'S EATING ERICA JACOBS: THE PODCAST

Erica_FINAL-1 I'd pinch myself, but that would hurt, plus, I need to maintain a healthy, glowing complexion. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm not dreaming...because I never actually went to sleep last night. WHAT?! I dunno what I'm saying!! All I know is...

 THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!

THE BREAD HAS RISEN! (little Jewish humor)

THE BABY'S IN THE BATH!

ELVIS HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING!

SMOKEY'S IN THE CHICKEN HOUSE!

THE CHEESE IS IN THE TRUNK!

Just kidding. None of these things have happened, but...

MY PODCAST HAS LAUNCHED!

It's safe to say, now, that I didn't think this thing would happen. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to figure out how to Podcast. That I would YouTube "How to start a podcast" and the tutorials would be in a foreign language (and most of them are). I was nervous I'd never have the right equipment, that I'd end up spending so much money on tools, software, gadgets, and devices only to find out I still didn't have the right stuff, or worse, I still didn't have anything to say, anything to share. I was afraid that I don't have what it takes, that I don't have what people want, that I don't have what you need.

This is the problem so many creatives have. More specifically, this is the problem that I, an ESFP, have. I am under the persistent and hilarious delusion that I know, with such certainty, what other people expect of me and what they need. It's so cute a nightmare. And further, I fear that if I don't deliver, if I don't solve the world's problems, if I'm not interesting enough, compelling enough, enlightened, original, inspiring or magical I will be exiled, become a viral UpWorthy video on How NOT to Podcast. I was concerned I'd be thrown to the wolves, or into the $2.99 bin at your local Car Wash, with not a friend, an essential oil or a pair of Lululemons in sight.

No matter how much therapists, friends, Evolutionary Astrologists, Whole Foods cashiers and my Mother say otherwise, I can't help but feel like it's not enough just to be me, when it comes to putting myself out there in new ways. It seems like everyone is I am in a giant race to say the ultimate things, have the most incredible ideas, create the most compelling ways of helping people and live a most "UpWorthy" kinda life.

I could go on and on about my insecurities, and trust me, there's PLENTY of time for that. But truthfully, I can only drive myself nuts and give a sh*t to a certain point, before I have to tell my brain where to shove it and just GO and do the thing. All the things. Like launch a PODCAST!
